Acid Rain: Recent Solutions
There are four primary ways that technology has been introduced to control the acid rain problem.
1. Coal-burning power plants can use a process called Flue gas desulfurization (FGD for short) which removes sulphur-containing gases before they ae released.
2. Lime or limestone in slurry form can be injected into a smokestack which produces a chemical reaction that reduces the acidity of the sulphur dioxide produced.
3. Any form of automobile emissions control reduces the amount of nitrogen oxide emitted from cars.
4. Finally, any renewable (green) energy source will not produce the chemcals that cause acid rain.
These are just four ways that modern technology can reduce the acid rain problem. Yo can reduce your own "acid rain footprint" by driving less, using a fuel efficient car, conserving electricity, and looking toward renewable energy for your family's needs.
